My recipe didn't turn out. What did I do wrong?

Sorry to hear that your recipe didn’t turn out as expected! I always want to do my best to provide you with as many tips and tricks as possible to give you success in the kitchen. There could be many reasons why it didn’t work out.
  • Did you follow the recipe correctly? Take your time reading the recipe directions first, and pay attention to how the ingredients are written to make sure it all makes sense. Reread through everything again because it’s easy to forget an ingredient, get the quantity wrong, or use the wrong ingredient altogether. Also, it’s very easy to accidentally skip a step or overlook an important sentence in the instructions. Most of the time, you’ll find your answer simply by reading through again.
  • Did you measure the ingredients properly? Measuring ingredients properly and prepping them before you start cooking is vital. I measure all my ingredients. Not measuring can lead to some serious recipe flops. Especially in baking recipes!
  • Did you prep the ingredients before you started? I highly recommend prepping before you cook, not during. It helps avoid mistakes in measuring and will reduce the amount of stress on you during cooking.
  • Did you use fresh and high-quality ingredients? Using fresh and high-quality ingredients is crucial for creating delicious and healthy meals. Choose seasonal produce, free-range meats, and artisanal cheeses to ensure the best flavours and textures.
  • Did you make any substitutions? I completely support you making changes to a recipe to make it work for you, but just do so knowing that it will change the result. I can’t guarantee any of those changes will work. As always, use your best judgment. Any substitution will change the flavour, texture, consistency, etc. Sometimes, swapping ingredients will work, and sometimes, it won’t be all that great.
  • Did you use the correct tools and ingredients temperature? The correct tools and ingredients are crucial for achieving the desired taste and texture. This includes measuring cups, spoons, mixing bowls, and fresh and high-quality ingredients. It’s also important to use the correct temperature for cooking methods, such as baking, roasting, or sautéing, to ensure the food is cooked evenly and thoroughly.
  • Did you cook it for the right amount of time? It’s important to cook it for the right amount of time to ensure food safety and optimal flavour. Generally, follow the cooking time recommended in the recipe, but check the food regularly to avoid overcooking. Use a timer or thermometer to help you keep track of time and temperature.
  • Have you read the Fast2eat tips and tricks posts related to your recipe? Please read them before making the recipe to catch any tips on troubleshooting the recipe.
These are some common mistakes that can affect the outcome of a recipe. We all make mistakes and flub up recipes from time to time. Try to identify and adjust the issue next time you make the recipe. Don’t let it get you down! Always try again. If you still need help finding the issue, feel free to ask in the comments on the recipe page. We’ll try to figure it out, but sometimes, it’s only possible by watching your process. Be sure to provide me with a good description of your end product because that will give me the most clues! I would love to review your issue and see if I have any advice or if the recipe needs a retest to ensure I wrote it clearly for the reader.

I need to find out the meaning of the cooking term or technique.

If you’re reading a recipe and come across a cooking term or technique you need to familiarize yourself with, take the time to look it up. I have a handy Cooking Terms guide here

If you don’t find it there, please let me know by commenting on the page with the term.

General questions and feedback

I am always happy to hear from you!

Please comment below. However, if you have questions or comments about a specific recipe or technique, please leave a public comment on that recipe or technique page. You’re far more likely to get a quick response there, and other readers will benefit from the answer, too.

Why haven't you answered my email or comment?

I have a hard time keeping up. I do my best to reply to every comment as soon as I receive it, but I am not always successful, so I apologize.

Email is even more challenging; I try to respond to every reader’s email. It might take me a few days to get back to you (occasionally longer when I’m working on a big project, on vacation, or on holiday).

Why have my comments yet to show up?

I have tools to avoid spam comments by verifying the authenticity of commenters and improving the overall user experience. They might have filtered your comment. Please try again using another sentence.

Furthermore, links to commercial websites aren’t allowed in the comments, and readers should refrain from putting links of any sort in the comment areas unless they’re relevant to the post’s subject and enhance the conversation.

I try never to censor comments. I welcome opinions differing from mine. But I ask that you post only words you would feel comfortable saying aloud to me in person. I reserve the right to delete any hurtful or nasty comment. I will also censor gratuitous profanity, nastiness, or plain off-topic wordiness.

Can I add Fast2eat to my mailing list?

Please DO NOT add me to your mailing list.
